China Reports 71 Additional COVID-19 Deaths, Total Deaths Reach 2,663 (Update)
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] In China, 71 additional deaths due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were reported in one day.
On the 25th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, there were 508 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 71 new deaths. Among the 508 new confirmed cases, 499 were from Hubei Province, with 464 cases coming from Wuhan City, the epicenter of COVID-19 in Hubei Province.
Of the 71 additional deaths, 68 were patients from Hubei Province. The remaining 2 deaths were reported in Shandong Province, and 1 in Guangdong Province. The number of new suspected cases was recorded at 530.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases reported in China so far is 77,658. Among them, 27,323 patients have recovered and been discharged, and 2,663 have died.
Currently, 47,672 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals after being confirmed positive. Of these, 9,126 are in critical condition, indicating a high possibility of additional deaths. The cumulative number of suspected cases is 2,824, and the number of close contacts is 641,742. Among the close contacts, 87,902 are under medical observation.

Outside mainland China, in the Greater China region, a total of 121 confirmed cases have been reported: 81 in Hong Kong (including 19 discharged and 2 deaths), 10 in Macau (including 6 discharged), and 30 in Taiwan (including 5 discharged and 1 death).
