59.8% of COVID-19 Cases Linked to Shincheonji... Daenam Hospital 14.8% (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] It has been identified that 75% of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Korea are linked to the Shincheonji Daegu Church and Daenam Hospital in Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters as of 9 a.m. on the 24th, there are a total of 763 confirmed cases in the country. Among them, 456 patients (59.8%) are associated with the Shincheonji Daegu Church, and 113 patients (14.8%) are related to Daenam Hospital. There are also 161 patients with unknown sources of infection. Epidemiological investigations suggest that additional patients related to the Shincheonji Daegu Church and Daenam Hospital may be identified.
Jung Eun-kyung, Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stated at the regular briefing in the afternoon, "We are concerned that the outbreak that started from the Shincheonji Daegu Church may have spread to some extent through secondary transmission." She added, "For residents of Daegu who have fever or respiratory symptoms, we plan to conduct intensive testing for about two weeks to isolate confirmed cases early and prevent further transmission."

By region, Daegu has the highest number of confirmed cases at 442, followed by Gyeongbuk with 186, Gyeonggi 35, Seoul 30, Gyeongnam 20, Busan 17, Gwangju 9, Gangwon 7, Daejeon, Chungbuk, and Jeonbuk each with 3, Incheon and Jeju each with 2, and Ulsan, Sejong, Chungnam, and Jeonnam each with 1.
