Paldang Observatory, Visited by 70,000 Annually, Also 'Closed'
[Asia Economy (Gwangju) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Water Resources Headquarters has decided to temporarily close the 'Paldang Observatory' until the 'Novel Coronavirus Infection' (COVID-19) situation stabilizes.
The Provincial Water Resources Headquarters announced on the 24th that the temporary closure, which began on the 21st, will be extended until the situation stabilizes to ensure the safety of residents.
The Provincial Water Resources Headquarters plans to provide additional updates through its website to minimize inconvenience to residents caused by the closure.
Lee Young-jong, head of the Provincial Water Resources Headquarters, stated, "At the early stage of the COVID-19 outbreak, we opened the observatory by strengthening facility disinfection and hygiene management, but due to the further spread of COVID-19, we have inevitably decided to temporarily close it. During the closure period, we will improve the facilities, such as repairing the aging elevator, to make it a safer viewing facility."

Located in Namjong-myeon, Gwangju City, the Paldang Observatory was established in July 2008 on the 9th floor of the headquarters as a 'Water Environment Exhibition Hall' by the Provincial Water Resources Headquarters, equipped with various materials to raise awareness of the importance of water. It offers a splendid view of Paldang Lake and attracts more than 70,000 family visitors annually.
