3 Construction Site Fatal Accidents in January... Hoban · Daehan Tongun · Daebo
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Last month, three fatal accidents occurred at the sites of three companies?Hoban Industrial, CJ Logistics, and Daebo Construction?among the top 100 construction companies ranked by construction capability.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport disclosed on the 24th the list of companies among the top 100 construction firms that experienced fatal accidents during January.
According to the list, Hoban Industrial had one worker die in an accident on the 21st of last month at the 'Hoban Verdiem' apartment construction site in Incheon Geomdan New Town AB15-2 block. Hoban Industrial also had one fatal accident last September at the Banpocheon watershed separation tunnel construction site. Additionally, one fatal accident each occurred at CJ Logistics' Incheon Songdo Times Square new construction site and Daebo Construction's Seoul Gasan 2nd House D Wise Tower knowledge industry center site.
The Ministry of Land plans to conduct intensive inspections of these three construction companies until next month. Since July last year, the Ministry has been conducting special and surprise inspections targeting large construction companies where fatal accidents have occurred. Accordingly, from July to December last year, special inspections were carried out at 297 sites under construction by 24 companies with fatal accidents. A total of 733 issues were identified, including 140 penalty points, averaging 2.5 issues per site, which is a higher intensity than the regular inspections that averaged 1.9 issues per site.

Minister of Land Kim Hyun-mi emphasized, “Following 2019, we will continue to conduct ‘punitive site inspections’ focusing on companies with fatal accidents in 2020 to encourage the industry to proactively prevent safety accidents.”
