Kim Young-woo: "Due to noise from Hong Joon-pyo and Lee Eon-ju... Kim Hyung-o's burden has grown heavier"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Young-woo, a member of the Future United Party, stated that the burden on Kim Hyung-oh, the chairman of the nomination committee, has increased due to recent controversies arising during the nomination process.
On the 21st, Kim appeared on tbs radio's 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory' and said, "Since this is a matter of establishing principles, the deliberation will deepen."
Earlier, former leader Hong Joon-pyo posted on his Facebook that although he actively expressed his intention to run in Yangsan, the nomination committee requested him to either run in Seoul or not run at all. He also stated that if he fails to secure the nomination, he plans to retire from politics or run as an independent candidate.
Kim said, "Since he was a party leader, Chairman Kim's burden has increased, and he will be contemplating. However, if those principles are not upheld, the principles in other regions could also collapse." He explained, "The biggest issue during nominations is whether fairness is maintained and whether the criteria apply to some people but exceptions are made for others," adding, "This can provoke opposition from others."
Within the party, opinions are divided regarding former leader Hong's choice of electoral district. Kim stated, "On one hand, some say it is right to run in the metropolitan area, arguing that since the metropolitan area is difficult anyway, running in Busan-Gyeongnam (PK) might not be a tough district," and "on the other hand, since Assemblyman Kim Doo-kwan is a direct opponent, Yangsan also holds political significance."
Regarding the dissatisfaction expressed by local politicians such as Assemblyman Kim Moo-sung over Assemblyman Lee Eon-ju's suggestion of a strategic nomination in the Busan area, Kim said, "Until the nomination is finalized, it is better to keep quiet. Assemblyman Lee spoke as if he had already received a promise for a strategic nomination, and Assemblyman Kim Moo-sung, seeing the prospective candidates who have been active in that area, said that strategic nomination could foster division between regions, so a primary election would be better," adding, "It is appropriate to exercise restraint."

On the response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), he said, "Some people in the Moon administration have been too talkative, claiming victory and saying this will soon end, but I think that should not be done," adding, "Rather than blaming past actions, both ruling and opposition parties should prepare joint countermeasures, and at this time, the Blue House must truly fulfill its role as the control tower."
