Control Center Monitoring Officer Spots Suspect of Indecent Assault During Real-Time Surveillance and Alerts On-Site... Patrol Car Dispatched to Ensure Victim's Safe Return and Suspect Arrested at Scene
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Eunpyeong-gu Smart City Integrated Control Center has once again gained attention for contributing to the arrest of a crime suspect.
The Eunpyeong-gu Smart City Integrated Control Center's security CCTV monitoring officer captured an incident of sexual harassment during real-time monitoring and promptly dispatched a patrol car to arrest the suspect.
On the 17th at around 9:10 PM, a monitoring officer noticed a woman in a heavily intoxicated state unable to maintain her balance after getting off a taxi, and quickly requested a patrol car dispatch.
The monitoring officer observed the taxi driver making excessive physical contact during the woman's exit, immediately reviewed the recorded footage, and confirmed that the suspect, pretending to assist her off the taxi, repeatedly touched the victim's chest.
Police officers, who received the location where the victim got off and the taxi's license plate number from the control center, found the victim around 9:25 PM and safely escorted her into the patrol car for a secure return home.
Then, at around 10:10 PM, they found the taxi parked nearby and arrested the suspect.
The expertise and meticulous monitoring of the officers, who have captured and responded to many crime situations not only through 112 emergency calls but also real-time surveillance, played a key role in turning what could have been an overlooked crime into a suspect's arrest.
The Eunpyeong-gu Control Center monitoring officers currently oversee 2,853 security CCTVs across 843 locations in the district, recording a high number of incident responses annually (4,016 cases in 2018, 4,139 cases in 2019).
