CU announced on the 20th that it will launch the first installment of the ‘Baek Jong-won's Cooking Secrets Ready Meal Series’ on the 25th, in collaboration with Baek Jong-won, a culinary researcher and popular YouTuber.
Baek Jong-won's Cooking Secrets is the name of the YouTube channel featuring culinary researcher Baek Jong-won. Through this channel, Baek Jong-won shares various content including cooking know-how, business stories, and projects to support Korean farmers.
The first installment of the Baek Jong-won's Cooking Secrets Ready Meal Series includes a total of seven items ranging from lunchboxes to main dishes: Dakgalbi set meal, Bulgogi pasta, Tofu kimchi, Ddaengcho crab mayo gimbap/triangle gimbap, Tteokgalbi burger, and All-purpose onion ham sandwich.
The Dakgalbi set meal is generously portioned with udon noodles added to the chicken stir-fried in Baek Jong-won's secret sauce. The Bulgogi pasta uses unique ingredients such as wide pasta noodles (linguine) and beef bulgogi toppings, which are rarely found in convenience stores. The tofu kimchi, consisting of stir-fried kimchi with thinly sliced pork belly and mild tofu, is perfect as a side dish or snack. The Ddaengcho crab mayo gimbap/triangle gimbap, Tteokgalbi burger, and All-purpose onion ham sandwich faithfully recreate popular recipes that have recorded over 4.7 million views.
All product labels in the Baek Jong-won's Cooking Secrets Ready Meal Series include QR codes linking to related recipe videos. The back of the labels for the Dakgalbi set meal, Bulgogi pasta, and Tofu kimchi contain key ingredients and recipes, allowing customers to use them as their own recipe books.
CU will hold a Cooking Secrets event for one month starting from the 1st of next month. Customers who purchase items from the series can enter the receipt number on the event page of CU’s official website. Winners will be selected by lottery to receive small kitchen appliances such as toasters, air fryers, and coffee machines.
The video contest ‘Cooking Secrets Challenge’ will also be held during the same period. Participants can upload creative videos on social networking services (SNS) that reenact the recipes of Cooking Secrets products or showcase their own tasting methods, along with hashtags. Winners will receive essential creator items such as the iPhone 11 Pro and GoPro HERO8 Black.
Jo Sung-wook, head of BGF Retail’s Ready Meal Team, said, “Consumers who have been curious about the taste of the food featured on Baek Jong-won's Cooking Secrets YouTube channel will now be able to easily and conveniently experience that taste at CU.” He added, “CU will continue to collaborate with researcher Baek Jong-won to improve the taste and quality of ready meals and take the lead in promoting the consumption of Korean agricultural products.”
