Hong Kong Electronics Fair Also Hit by COVID-19 Following MWC
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Hong Kong Spring Electronics Fair), held annually in April in Hong Kong, has postponed its event schedule to July due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Following the cancellation of MWC, large-scale ICT industry events worldwide are being severely impacted by COVID-19.
According to industry sources on the 18th, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) sent a notice to buyers informing them that the HKTDC Hong Kong Spring Electronics Fair and the International ICT Expo, originally scheduled for April 13 to 16, have been postponed to July 25 to 28.
The HKTDC stated, "Considering the ongoing risks of the coronavirus and government measures, after consulting with industry representatives, we have decided to postpone all fairs scheduled for April to July."
The Hong Kong Electronics Fair is Asia's largest electronics fair held twice a year in April and October, attracting around 60,000 participants. It is considered one of the three major electronics fairs alongside the US International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and Germany's CeBIT. It is a venue where most Chinese ICT manufacturers, excluding Huawei, and ODM manufacturers with production factories gather, attracting ICT companies from various countries. Despite the Hong Kong protests in October last year, the event proceeded, but due to the high participation of Chinese manufacturers and concerns over the spread of COVID-19, the event itself was postponed.
