View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, who embarked on his first on-site management this year, visited the 'Design Management Center,' responsible for design research and development at LG Electronics, to assess the design competitiveness of major products scheduled for release this year and discuss future design strategies.
According to LG on the 18th, Chairman Koo visited the Design Management Center within LG Electronics' Seocho R&D Campus the previous day and stated, "Design is the entire process that completes customer experience and emotion."
Chairman Koo said, "Design is the very first moment when customers get their first impression of our products and feel the value that makes them want to buy," adding, "Design is also what makes customers admire the delicate consideration and convenience throughout the use of the product and makes the customer stand out."
The Design Management Center visited by Chairman Koo that day is a core base responsible for LG Electronics' customer value-centered design research and development. CEO Koo emphasized design as the first step in creating products that can impress customers, deciding to visit to check competitiveness and hear voices from the field.
Chairman Koo emphasized that LG Electronics' design direction should captivate customers' eyes, excite their hearts, and make them look forward to the next product. To this end, he urged that the design organization and working methods should be open, respecting creativity and diversity.
He also stressed that various collaborations and convergence would be important to create customer-impressing designs. This means observing from the customers' perspective and breaking away from existing practices.
Chairman Koo promised full support for design development by telling LG Electronics' design leaders, "I hope you steadily build designs that provide new customer experiences and elevate the dignity of customer impression," and "If there are difficulties, I will always help."
Chairman Koo reviewed innovative home appliances such as LG Electronics' smart door and wall-adhered OLED TV, which are under consideration for release this year, as well as products in the automotive parts sector such as connected cars and digital cockpits, examining how design elements that exceed customer expectations are reflected.
The smart door is an entrance system applying smart home AI solutions that connect the inside and outside of the house through the Internet of Things (IoT), providing lifestyle information such as weather and schedules, and checking product status by linking with home appliances. It enhances security by strengthening complex biometric authentication technologies such as 3D facial recognition, reduces customer concerns, and separately installs a refrigerated box and parcel box to store delivered fresh food, reflecting consumer trend changes with the rapid increase in online shopping and food delivery.
The wall-adhered OLED TV is a 19.9mm-thick integrated TV that adheres completely to the wall to enhance viewing immersion. Cables and installation components, which cause space behind the TV, are built into the main body, and the entire OLED TV, including the screen, driving part, and speakers, is attached to the wall without gaps to allow immersion in the screen. The wall-adhered OLED TV is scheduled to be released within the first half of this year.
Present at the site, No Chang-ho, Head of the Design Management Center, explained the company's design strategy direction, interpreting key values such as customers' pain points design-wise and reflecting them in products, while ensuring that customer value-based design continues through to final mass production.
Attending the event were Chairman Koo, Head No, leaders of advanced design and design research institutes of each business division at LG Electronics, product planning managers, and young responsible business talents.
