LG Uplus Strengthens Google Content Partnership
Promotion for LG Uplus 5G Subscribers
Applies from Samsung Galaxy S20 Onwards
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG Uplus is conducting a promotion that allows customers who subscribe to its 5G service to experience YouTube Premium for free for six months. The plan is to attract 5G subscribers through Google content, which is popular among the millennial generation.
On the 18th, LG Uplus announced a 'strategic partnership plan with Google' centered on this content. The ‘Best of Google’ 5G promotion being offered includes ▲free trials of YouTube Premium and ▲Google One paid membership for up to six months each, and ▲Google Play Points Gold level membership provided for one year.
YouTube Premium is expected to be especially popular. YouTube Premium is a membership service that allows users to watch all YouTube videos without ads, save videos to mobile devices for offline playback, and play videos in the background even when using other apps or when the screen is off.
The ‘Best of Google’ 5G promotion will be applied starting with this year’s first 5G device, the Samsung Galaxy S20. Applications will be available from February 27. LG Uplus will also expand YouTube Premium and Google One benefits to LTE customers.
LG Uplus explained that based on an analysis of millennial customers’ mobile service usage behavior last year, 5G users use cloud services and Google Play more than twice as much as LTE users, and spend more than 30% more on paid services, leading to an expansion of benefits for frequently used services.
