Kim Young-woo Criticizes Future United Party's Promise of 2 Nights 3 Days Monthly Leave for Soldiers: "No Comment"
"Guarantee of 2 Nights and 3 Days Monthly Leave for Military Personnel? No Words"
"Kim Jaewon, Chairman of the Policy Committee Who Came Up with This Idea, Resign Immediately"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] On the 17th, the United Future Party proposed increasing the military retirement age to 60 and granting active-duty soldiers a monthly 2-night, 3-day leave. However, Kim Young-woo, a United Future Party lawmaker and former chairman of the National Defense Committee, criticized this as a populist pledge.
In a post on his Facebook page that afternoon, Rep. Kim said, "The United Future Party is good, but their number one pledge is to guarantee soldiers a monthly 2-night, 3-day leave? It is sad and sorrowful. I have nothing to say," criticizing the proposal.
He added, "My own son is currently serving in the military," and pointed out, "But giving soldiers a 2-night, 3-day leave every month is truly a misstep. I cannot understand whether this is for national defense or youth welfare."
He continued, "We must now truly think about the country's security," and said, "No matter how close the election is, I am really angry."
Rep. Kim demanded, "Kim Jae-won, the policy committee chairman who came up with this idea, should resign immediately," and warned, "Stop ruining the United Future Party. Are you really thinking about the country's defense now?"
