Orion's 'Jeju Yongamsu' Wins Main Prize in Packaging Category at Germany's iF Design Award
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Orion announced on the 17th that its premium mineral water, ‘Orion Jeju Yongamsu,’ won the main prize in the packaging design category at the ‘2020 German iF Design Award.’
The iF Design Award, considered one of the world’s top three design competitions, is hosted at the Hannover Exhibition Center in Germany. Over 7,000 works from 60 countries were submitted. Orion Jeju Yongamsu was designed by Professor Bae Sang-min of KAIST, who previously served as a product design professor at Parsons School of Design and has won the world’s four major design awards including Red Dot and iF.
Inspired by the beautiful nature of Jeju Island, the design uses vertical and horizontal lines to symbolize the columnar joints and the sea’s horizon, creating a simple yet sophisticated look. The bottle label features the towering Hallasan Mountain and the Orion constellation shining in the night sky, depicting Jeju’s day and night. Despite using minimal plastic for environmental considerations, the bottle withstands about four times the high-pressure load compared to conventional PET bottles, demonstrating excellent functionality.
Orion Jeju Yongamsu is characterized by providing abundant minerals to modern people suffering from mineral deficiency. Key mineral components include calcium 62 mg/L, which helps bone health; potassium 22 mg/L, which aids in body fluid and electrolyte balance by promoting sodium excretion; and magnesium 9 mg/L, which supports nerve and muscle function. Additionally, to address body acidification caused by westernized diets, the water is mildly alkaline with a pH of 8.1 to 8.9.
