[New Release] 'Yeokwi Eating Bugs' · 'Muju-gong Secret Stories'
◆The Bug That Eats Agrimony=This reveals the inside story of the "Odawara Incident," known as the biggest scandal in Japanese literary circles. The Odawara Incident refers to a controversy where the author divorced his wife because their sexual preferences did not match and encouraged her to remarry a friend who had mediated their conflicts. Reporting the relationship among the three of them, including himself, in the form of a novel caused another uproar. The core eroticism aspect of the author's literature, revealed through personal confession, appears in a classical form. It is called a Copernican revolution, a "return to the classical world."
"Two contradictory emotions clashed in his heart. One was the feeling that growing old is not necessarily a sad thing, and that there is a pleasure that the elderly naturally come to know as they age. On the other hand, just thinking about such things was already a sign of aging, and both he and Misako were trying to separate to return once more to freedom and enjoy youth, so he felt that he must not grow old even in his will toward his wife." (Junichiro Tanizaki / Translated by Im Daham / Minumsa)
◆The Secret Story of Lord Muju=This work was serialized and interrupted repeatedly between 1931 and 1932 and was finally completed in 1935. It tells a strange anecdote about Lord Muju, a warlord of the Sengoku period, in the traditional Japanese "monogatari" style (a prose literature form where the author narrates about characters or events based on what they have seen, heard, or imagined). The author's eroticism and masochism, as well as admiration for Japanese classics, can be glimpsed.
