A Man in His 60s Who Attempted to Kill a Bystander Saying "I Feel Bad" After a Failed Suicide Attempt Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seong-yeol] A man in his 60s who attempted an extreme act and then tried to kill a pedestrian by hitting them with his car out of bad feelings after failing was sentenced to prison.
The Jeju District Court Criminal Division 2 (Chief Judge Jeong Bong-gi) announced on the 14th that A (60), who was arrested and indicted on charges of attempted murder, was sentenced to six years in prison.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "He tried to kill an innocent victim, and considering the victim's mental shock and aftereffects, it is necessary to impose a corresponding sentence," and "The sentence was determined considering that the crime was only attempted and that there was no other criminal record."
Earlier, A was indicted on charges of attempting to kill a tourist in their 20s by hitting them with an SUV near the parking lot of Iho Tewoo Beach in Jeju City around 2 p.m. on November 20 last year. A fled the scene after committing the crime but was caught by the police.
The tourist hit by the car was reported to have survived without serious injury.
It was investigated that A had attempted to take his own life a few days before the crime and tried to kill another person because he was "in a bad mood."
