[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Ulsan City is inviting private companies and universities to participate in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2020 Smart City Challenge' contest by the 16th of next month.
According to Ulsan City on the 14th, the '2020 Smart City Challenge' contest is a project to build various types of smart city models tailored to regional conditions and demands by local governments nationwide, establishing comprehensive solutions to city-wide problems based on ideas from private companies.
Since this contest project is promoted in a way that companies, universities, and local governments participate together from the early stages, institutions to jointly participate with the city and province are being recruited.
If selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's contest, the entire project cost of 1.5 billion KRW will be supported by national funds, and a preliminary project for establishing a smart city plan and solution verification will be promoted this year. After performance evaluation of the preliminary project, if selected as the main project site, 15 billion KRW in national funds will be supported over the next three years.
Ulsan City plans to transparently select joint participating institutions for this project through public recruitment and evaluation by a review committee, finalize participating institutions by next month, and submit the contest application to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport by April 3. The Ministry will conduct document and presentation evaluations for local governments that submit applications in April and announce the final selection results at the end of April.
