Jongno-gu Promotes 'Altteul Transportation Card' Project to Save Transportation Costs and Protect Health
A system that awards mileage based on walking and cycling distances when using public transportation a certain number of times... Get a transportation card on the website and earn up to 450 KRW mileage per ride... You can get a transportation discount next month
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) is actively promoting the "Metropolitan Discount Transportation Card Linked Mileage Support Project" to help residents reduce transportation costs and revitalize public transportation.
The Metropolitan Discount Transportation Card support project, implemented by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, is a system that awards mileage based on walking and bicycle travel distances when public transportation is used a certain number of times or more.
It not only reduces transportation costs but also rewards individual voluntary efforts, encourages the activation of public transportation, and increases economic, social, and environmental benefits.
To use the program, apply for membership on the Discount Transportation Card Mileage website (https://www.alcard.kr), then receive a transportation card (credit or debit) and use public transportation at least 15 times per month. Mileage of up to 450 KRW per trip is accumulated, and the accumulated mileage can be used to get discounts on transportation costs the following month.
As of February 12, 2020, a total of 218 residents in Jongno-gu are receiving benefits linked to the Discount Transportation Card mileage support, and since October 1 of last year, the "Metropolitan Discount Transportation Card Linked Mileage Pilot Project" has been underway.
According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on 12,398 participants nationwide in the 2019 pilot project, each person saved an average of 10,505 KRW per month on transportation costs, and the average monthly public transportation usage increased by 10% after using the Discount Transportation Card.
Future discussions include additional mileage payments for low-income youth and the development of cards that allow free rides for seniors aged 65 and over (on urban railways, etc.) followed by integrated transfer discounts.
If such user-customized benefit enhancement measures are implemented, it is expected to help young people with high transportation cost burdens save on living expenses and improve convenience for seniors.
The support target for this project in 2020 is 500 residents on a first-come, first-served basis, including pilot project participants.
