Namhae Coast Guard Agency Awards Commendation to Ship Engine Failure Rescue Honorees
Captain Lim Young-cheol and Navigator Kim Dae-geun of the 601 Baekryongho and Two Others
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] On the 13th, Kim Honghee, Commissioner of the Namhae Maritime Police Agency, visited the Busan Passenger Terminal and awarded commendations to three people, including Captain Lim Youngcheol and navigator Kim Daegun of the 601 Baekryongho, who contributed to rescuing a vessel with engine failure despite severe weather conditions.
According to the Namhae Maritime Police Agency, the 601 Baekryongho, belonging to the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, towed vessel A, which was seeking refuge due to engine failure 1.6 nautical miles east of Oryukdo on the 27th of last month when a storm warning was issued in the waters off Busan, to Pier 1 of Busan Port and safely docked it at the request of the maritime police.
The Busan branch of the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation also supported personnel and equipment to enable the rescue vessel 601 Baekryongho to actively carry out rescue operations.
Commissioner Kim Honghee delivered commendations and souvenirs on the day, expressing gratitude and praising the dedication of the captain and staff of the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation for their efforts in accident prevention through devoted safety management measures.
Commissioner Kim said, “I once again thank all of you who rescued precious lives at sea with prompt response during the accident,” and added, “The maritime police will continue to do their best to create a safe and clean sea of hope.”

Captain Lim said, “Although I thought it was dangerous due to bad weather at the time, nothing is more important than human life,” and shared his thoughts, saying, “I just did what I was supposed to do.”
