Gang Operating Illegal Online Private Horse Racing Site Sentenced to Prison
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A group operating an illegal internet horse racing site has been sentenced to imprisonment.
On the 13th, Choi Seok-moon, Chief Judge of Criminal Division 1 at Jeju District Court, announced that A (41), the mastermind behind the illegal horse racing site, was sentenced to 2 years in prison for violating the Korea Racing Authority Act (operating gambling, etc.).
He was also ordered to forfeit approximately 527.51 million won in criminal proceeds.
The other three accomplices who assisted A were given a 2-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to perform 80 to 160 hours of community service.
The court stated the sentencing reason, saying, "Their crimes greatly harm society by encouraging public gambling tendencies and undermining a sound work ethic," and "the degree of involvement and sentencing conditions were comprehensively considered."

A and the other three are accused of opening and operating an internet private horse racing site with betting amounts in the tens of billions of won at an officetel in Gyeonggi Province from July 2018 to November 2019.
