Ruling and Opposition Parties Agree to Pass Electoral District Delimitation Bill in Plenary Session on the 5th of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The ruling and opposition parties agreed on the 13th to handle the 4.15 general election district delineation plan at the plenary session on the 5th of next month.
Hong Ik-pyo, the Democratic Party floor leader of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, and Lee Chae-ik, the floor leader of the Liberty Korea Party, held a meeting with Kim Se-hwan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Central Election Commission and chairman of the Election District Delimitation Committee, at the National Assembly that morning and announced this agreement through a briefing.
The ruling and opposition floor leaders of the Public Administration and Security Committee received a report from the Election District Delimitation Committee on the major schedule and contentious issues related to the district delineation and coordinated their positions.
The floor leaders received a report from Deputy Secretary-General Kim on the current discussions of the Delimitation Committee regarding district delineation and coordinated their positions. They also exchanged opinions on the revision of the Public Official Election Act related to the deposit for proportional representation candidates, which the Constitutional Court had ruled unconstitutional.
Representative Hong said, "We have generally agreed on the schedule to finalize the district delineation plan at the plenary session on March 5," and added, "The Election Commission requested a revision of the Public Official Election Act regarding the unconstitutional issues such as the deposit for proportional representation candidates, and it was decided to resolve this at the plenary session on the 25th."

Representative Lee said, "The Delimitation Committee expressed the hope that the Speaker of the National Assembly notify the district delineation criteria by the 24th so that there will be no disruption in the subsequent National Assembly approval process," and added, "The detailed matters will be reported to the party leadership based on today's meeting, and after receiving the party leadership's opinions, they will be discussed at the next meeting."
