The Ministry of Education announced that Deputy Prime Minister Yoo will visit Sungkyunkwan University and Kyung Hee University in Seoul on the afternoon of the 13th to review academic management plans following the delayed semester start, the universities' own COVID-19 response plans, and the status of international student management, as well as to listen to difficulties and suggestions from the field.
As of last year, there are approximately 71,000 Chinese international students enrolled in domestic universities, with the largest numbers attending Kyung Hee University (around 3,800 students) and Sungkyunkwan University (around 3,300 students).
Deputy Prime Minister Yoo plans to specifically visit the dormitories of these universities to assess the accommodation status of international students and conduct a comprehensive inspection of dormitory facility disinfection measures.
Earlier, the government recommended on the 5th that universities postpone the start of the first semester of the 2020 academic year to prevent the introduction of COVID-19 into campuses and protect students' learning rights. Subsequently, on the 12th, it distributed the 'Academic Operation Guidelines for Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Infection.'
