Moorim Accelerates 'Eco-Friendly Management' Efforts
Moorim Low-Carbon Paper Designated as 'Green Product' for Mandatory Purchase by Public Institutions
Moorim P&P Paper is the Only One Among 138 Low-Carbon Products...Expecting Increased Purchases
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Murim P&P (CEO Kim Seok-man), a domestic pulp and paper specialist company, recently had its low-carbon paper included in the Ministry of Environment's certified 'Green Products,' making it a mandatory purchase item for public institutions. Based on this, Murim plans to take the lead in revitalizing the eco-friendly paper market.
According to the paper industry on the 12th, the Ministry of Environment announced an amendment to the "Act on the Promotion of Purchase of Green Products" (hereinafter referred to as the Green Product Purchase Act) on the 29th of last month, adding 'Low-Carbon Certified Products' to the Green Products category. The Green Product Purchase Act mandates that public institutions must purchase 'Green Products' when buying products, and this amendment included low-carbon certified products as Green Products. Low-carbon products are certified for outstanding greenhouse gas reduction through process improvements, and currently, only 138 products from 43 companies have received certification, with Murim P&P's paper products being the only ones certified in the paper category.
Murim P&P's low-carbon certified products include four types of paper widely used in the printing paper market: art paper types (Neostar Art, Neostar Snow White), MFC paper type (Neostar S Plus), and white paper type (Neostar Baeksang). These products are produced through Murim P&P's eco-friendly system at its Ulsan plant, with carbon emissions amounting to only about half of the average emissions of the entire printing paper product group. In 2013, they became the first in the paper industry to receive low-carbon product certification.
In addition to the four low-carbon certified products, Murim P&P is also pursuing certification for 'Neostar Beige' and plans to expand certification to all products from the Ulsan plant in the future. Murim has been committed to developing eco-friendly paper products based on this environmentally friendly production system, and these products have secured competitiveness in overseas markets such as North America and Europe, positively contributing to increased exports.
