Naju-si Strengthens COVID-19 Virus Quarantine Management
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 11th that it is continuously strengthening its quarantine response system to block the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
Earlier, since the 22nd confirmed case occurred on the 6th, no additional infections have been reported, but the city is maintaining a thorough response system including monitoring symptomatic individuals under investigation, comprehensive surveillance, management of self-quarantined persons, and disinfection of multi-use facilities.
As of 4 p.m. on the same day, the city announced there was 1 symptomatic individual under investigation, 8 persons under comprehensive surveillance with travel history throughout China (within 14 days of entry), and 6 persons subject to self-quarantine.
Since the confirmed cases occurred, among 13 persons under comprehensive surveillance, 5, and among 21 persons subject to self-quarantine, 15 have completed the 14-day incubation period and have been released from monitoring and quarantine.
The city is focusing on identifying and managing Chinese residents or visitors in the area.
There are a total of 6 Chinese workers affiliated with local companies, and so far, no symptoms of infection have been confirmed.
They are currently under self-quarantine and are scheduled to be released from quarantine on the 15th.
The 62 Chinese international students enrolled at local universities are being strictly managed with customized measures such as self-quarantine, classified into those who have not left the country, those who have entered, and those residing in China (expected to enter).
As a quarantine measure to block the spread of the infection, the city has closed 739 multi-use facilities including 90 daycare centers, 26 child and youth facilities, 609 village halls and senior centers, 12 public bathhouses, and indoor swimming pools.
Additionally, disinfection is being conducted twice daily at 4 bus terminals, 241 bus stops, 155 buses, and 81 public restrooms.
Local residents, organizations, and companies are also voluntarily contributing warm support, warming the hearts of the community frozen by the virus.
About 40 members from organizations such as the Bitgaram-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee, Development Council, Youth Network, and Sanpo Nonghyup Bitgaram Industry-Academic Association participated in disinfection work around commercial areas with heavy foot traffic and apartment senior centers over two days starting from the 6th.

Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “Although no additional infections have occurred six days after the confirmed cases, considering the average incubation period of 5.2 days and the maximum incubation period of 14 days, this week is the most critical period. We will spare no effort in thorough management of suspected patients and self-quarantined individuals, as well as in operating a 24-hour emergency response team and disinfecting multi-use facilities for comprehensive prevention and response.”
