Procedure fees increased up to 1.1 million won, age limits removed, and number of sessions increased...
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Mokpo City announced on the 11th that it will expand support for infertility treatment costs for couples up to a maximum of 1.1 million KRW per session.
The support targets infertile couples with a standard median income of 180% or less (monthly income of 5,386,000 KRW or less for a two-person household), and common-law couples who are recognized to have maintained a de facto marital relationship for one year as of the application date are also included.
The infertility treatment cost support varies depending on the type of procedure, number of sessions, and the woman's age. The average treatment cost for fresh embryo in vitro fertilization (IVF) has been significantly increased from the previous maximum of 500,000 KRW to 1.1 million KRW. Frozen embryos can receive up to 500,000 KRW, artificial insemination up to 300,000 KRW, and support is available for up to a total of 17 sessions.
Infertile couples wishing to receive support must obtain a diagnosis certificate from a government-designated infertility treatment medical institution, bring their ID, and visit the Maternal and Child Health Office at the Mokpo City Health Center to apply.
A city official said, "As the number of infertile couples continues to increase, we sincerely hope that this expanded support will help those who have been unable to undergo treatment due to the high cost of procedures to receive benefits and have precious children."
