Moon's National Approval Rating Rebounds to 46.9%... "Response to COVID-19 is a Rising Factor" [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A public opinion poll has revealed that positive public sentiment toward the government's response to the novel coronavirus (Wuhan pneumonia) has led to a rebound in President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration.
According to Realmeter, which conducted the survey commissioned by YTN from the 3rd to the 7th, the positive evaluation of President Moon's administration rose by 1.9 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate to 46.9%, announced on the 10th. Negative evaluations decreased by 1.1 percentage points to 49.2%. The gap between positive and negative evaluations, which was 5.3 percentage points the previous week, narrowed to 2.3 percentage points within the margin of error in just one week.
It is analyzed that the government's measures against the novel coronavirus led this upward trend. In fact, according to a survey conducted by Realmeter on the 5th commissioned by OhmyNews, 55.2% responded that the government’s response to the novel coronavirus was 'good,' while 41.7% said it was 'not good.'
By demographic group, the positive evaluations significantly increased among people in their 30s (42.9%→55.8%) and office workers (50.0%→56.7%), leading the overall rise in approval ratings. Additionally, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region saw a large increase in positive evaluations (26.6%→35.2%).
Regarding party support, the Democratic Party of Korea recovered to the 40% range again, rising 1.7 percentage points from the previous week to 40.2%. The Liberty Korea Party also returned to the 30% range, increasing by 0.9 percentage points to 30.2%.

The Justice Party recorded a 0.3 percentage point decrease to 5.3%, while the New Conservative Party rose 0.3 percentage points to 4.1%. The Bareunmirae Party fell 0.2 percentage points to 3.3%, and the Party for Democracy and Peace increased 0.5 percentage points to 2.1%. Other parties included Uri Party at 1.2%, the Alternative New Party at 1.2%, and the Minjung Party at 0.7%, among others.
This survey contacted 50,610 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final response of 2,505 people, recording a response rate of 4.9%. The sampling error is ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
