The Dual Nature of Good and Evil in Humans, Musical 'Brothers Karamazov' Opens
Dostoevsky's 'The Brothers Karamazov' Original... At Daehangno Jayu Theater Until May 3
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The original musical 'Brothers Karamazov' will be revived on stage at the Jayu Theater in Daehangno until May 3.
The musical 'Brothers Karamazov' is a stage adaptation of the Russian literary master Fyodor Dostoevsky's 'The Brothers Karamazov.' It focuses on the psychology of the four brothers surrounding their father's murder case, portraying the contradictions and desires filled within the human inner self, as well as the coexistence of good and evil in human nature. The revival stage opened on the 7th under the new subtitle 'The Storm Living in Our Bodies.'
The musical 'Brothers Karamazov' features the four brothers, their father, and a demon character not present in the original work, creating a more dramatic and dense narrative. The vast original work, which contains various characters, numerous incidents, and countless episodes, is intensively condensed around the four brothers. Starting with the event of the father's death, 'Brothers Karamazov' aims to immerse the audience in the detailed psychology of the characters.
The musical 'Brothers Karamazov' premiered in early 2018 after receiving favorable reviews from two showcases held in February and October 2017. Notably, 'Brothers Karamazov' attracted attention for its use of the 'tone painting' technique, one of the Renaissance compositional methods, which expresses the meaning of lyrics through musical tones. The grand piano melodies, which express the mood of scenes and lyrics through pitch variations, dominate the overall atmosphere of the performance and overwhelm the audience.
