The first police officer to arrive at the scene used a 9V battery to unlock the digital door lock when the rescue team's arrival was delayed. The call to the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency was received around 12:20 PM on the 8th. The caller reported, "My girlfriend said she would 'kill herself' after a breakup and went back home." After the initial report, the caller sent a photo showing the girlfriend attempting an extreme act at her home and requested help again.
Ten minutes after the report, Sergeant Kang Se-yeon and Officer Lee Jeong-ha from the Gwonseon Police Substation of Suwon Nambu Police Station, who were patrolling nearby, were dispatched. When they arrived at the scene, the front door was locked. Knocking on the door was useless. The digital door lock on the front door had its battery removed and was not functioning.
The police requested joint fire department assistance to forcibly open the door. However, due to weekend traffic congestion, the rescue team's arrival was delayed. Meanwhile, the police deployed additional personnel but could not open the locked front door and could not proceed with further measures.
While everyone was waiting for the fire rescue team to arrive, Sergeant Kang took action. She bought a 9V battery from a nearby mart and connected it to the digital door lock jack on the front door. The digital door lock was activated, and the police entered the house by entering the password obtained from the caller.
