40s Man Sentenced to 18 Years for Beating 70s Apartment Security Guard to Death
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] A man in his 40s who beat a security guard in his 70s to death over unresolved complaints about noise between floors was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The Supreme Court's 3rd Division (Presiding Judge Min Yoo-sook) announced on the 7th that it upheld the 18-year prison sentence in the final appeal of Choi Mo (47), who was charged with murder.
Choi lived in an apartment in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. In December 2018, in the early morning, he went to security guard A (71) and assaulted him, citing reasons such as the failure to address the noise complaints he had raised. A died from Choi's assault. Choi claimed he was intoxicated at the time of the crime and had no intent to kill, asserting mental incapacity.

However, the first and second trials concluded, "The dissatisfaction over the noise issue had accumulated, and in a moment of rage while intoxicated and unable to control his anger, he committed the crime." They sentenced him to 18 years in prison. The Supreme Court found no error in this judgment and confirmed the sentence as is.
