Korean Party Recruits 'Yun Bong-gil's Great-Granddaughter' Yoon Joo-kyung... "Will Play a Major Role in Social Integration" (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun and Kim Hye-min] The Liberty Korea Party announced on the 7th that Yoon Joo-kyung, the great-granddaughter of independence activist Yoon Bong-gil and former director of the Independence Hall of Korea, has been selected as a candidate for recruitment ahead of the April 15 elections.
On the morning of the same day, the party held a welcoming ceremony for former Director Yoon at the National Assembly and made the announcement. Former Director Yoon has served as a member of the National Unification Committee, a director of the Independence Hall of Korea, and is currently serving as a director of the Maehun Yoon Bong-gil Woljinhoe. The Liberty Korea Party stated, "She is a figure who has taken the lead in promoting patriotism through active veterans’ affairs more than anyone else."
Former Director Yoon was previously listed as a recruitment candidate alongside former Army General Park Chan-joo last year, but the announcement was postponed amid the heated controversy surrounding Park Chan-joo.
Former Director Yoon said, "I have gone through much deliberation and reflection to stand here today," adding, "It is our mission today to properly inherit the spirit of the independence movement and create a new leap forward for the Republic of Korea."
She emphasized, "There is no distinction between ruling and opposition parties in the independence movement," and said, "What our era needs now is great national unity that transcends division and confrontation. It should not remain a mere slogan but be a genuine practice where we devote all our efforts to creating an equal, fair, and just society."
Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, presented former Director Yoon with a bouquet and a Mugunghwa scarf, and in his welcoming speech, he stressed the party’s commitment to recruiting capable talents. He said, "Former Director Yoon is the great-granddaughter of Yoon Bong-gil, who ignited the independence movement that was suppressed under Japanese oppression, and she has continuously worked for national unity. Going forward, she will play a significant role in our party’s efforts for veterans’ affairs and national integration."
