On the evening of the 6th, Mia Elementary urgently informed parents of a voluntary closure on the 7th through the School Notification System and text messages.
The school explained that during a full survey of individuals subject to voluntary quarantine for the novel coronavirus, there were rumors that a suspected infected person visited a business near the school, which increased parents' concerns, leading the school to decide on the closure independently.
However, the investigation results from health authorities and related agencies regarding the actual movement paths or visited businesses of the suspected infected person have not yet been released.
In the Seoul area, the number of schools closing to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus is increasing. Earlier, on the 5th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education ordered the closure from the 6th to the 13th of 42 kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools in Jungnang-gu and Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, where the 5th confirmed case of the novel coronavirus had visited. Among these are schools located about 1.5 km from Mia Elementary, such as Jeongdeok Elementary, Maewon Elementary, Uchon Elementary, and Gomyung Middle School.
On the 6th, it was reported that the 19th confirmed case of the novel coronavirus resided in an apartment complex in Songpa-gu, leading nearby Haenuri Elementary, Georak Elementary, and Gangmyeong Elementary in Gangdong-gu to close voluntarily.
