Chosun University’s All-Out Effort to Prevent and Contain the Spread of ‘Corona’
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun University (President Min Young-don) is stepping up efforts to prevent and contain the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
Chosun University announced on the 4th that since the 28th of last month, it has been monitoring the situation daily through interdepartmental consultations centered on the Infection Control Office of Chosun University Hospital and the university health clinic, and responding according to the measures from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Ministry of Education.
For enrolled students, prospective freshmen, and university members, guidance on personal hygiene management and how to respond if symptoms appear was provided via the website, SNS, and text messages.
On the day the 16th confirmed case was reported in Gwangju, a reminder of personal hygiene rules and symptom-based response methods was sent again to all members via text message.
Additionally, internationalization programs such as the dispatch of Chinese exchange students scheduled to depart this month and the Uzbekistan cultural exploration trip were postponed, and all group events including student council activities were canceled.
Chinese international students who entered through the first government quarantine system were thoroughly surveyed by the International Cooperation Team to track their movements, strongly advised to self-isolate for two weeks, and monitored closely through individual phone calls at least twice a day.
Furthermore, according to the international student management manual, international students scheduled to reside in dormitories will be assigned to ‘Green Village,’ a foreigner-only dormitory isolated from Baekhak Dormitory and Global House, designated as a quarantine dormitory upon move-in.
If no symptoms appear after two weeks of quarantine, they will be allowed to move to the dormitory they originally applied for.
Measures related to Chinese international students are also being devised in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, which is establishing a cross-ministerial cooperation system, and additional countermeasures will be prepared accordingly.
Disinfection of campus facilities is being thoroughly conducted, and hand sanitizers and masks have been placed in various locations.
In particular, infrared thermometers have been installed in places with high student traffic such as the Central Library and the One-Stop Student Counseling Center, as well as in the International Cooperation Team that manages international students, so that students can check their temperature frequently.
In cases where group activities are unavoidable, such as new student course registration, the group size will be minimized, and hand sanitizers and disposable masks will be provided.
Any changes to academic schedules, such as course registration or new student orientation, will be repeatedly communicated through the university website, SNS, and text messages.
