Over 20,000 Confirmed Cases of Novel Coronavirus in China... 425 Deaths (Update)
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] The number of deaths caused by the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) in China has reached 425.
On the 4th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, 3,235 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus were reported nationwide, along with 64 additional deaths. In Hubei Province, where Wuhan City, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus, is located, 2,345 new confirmed cases and 64 deaths were reported in a single day.
The nationwide cumulative statistics show that the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus has reached 20,438, surpassing 20,000 for the first time. The number of severe patients has reached 2,788, and the number of additional deaths is expected to continue to rise.
The cumulative number of deaths has been tallied at 425. The number of suspected cases is 23,214. So far, the number of people who have had close contact with patients is 221,015, of whom 171,329 are under medical observation.
