Busan City Announces Open Laboratory Operation Project Contest
Applications Open Until the 24th for the 'Outstanding Researcher Industry-Linked R&BD Project' Competition
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Busan City and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP) announced on the 3rd that they will hold a public contest for the ‘Regional Specialized Technology Development and Diffusion Open Laboratory Operation Project’ and the ‘Regional Excellent Researcher-Enterprise Linked R&BD Project’ to revitalize university research and development (R&D) projects and create a regional innovation ecosystem.
The Regional Specialized Technology Development and Diffusion Open Laboratory Operation Project is a program that supports universities located in Busan with excellent research capabilities to promote technology commercialization and create conditions for innovative technology development, with a total budget of 2 billion KRW allocated this year.
Eligible applicants are four-year university laboratories located in Busan, and support is provided in two types: ‘market-oriented,’ which supports commercialization of research results, and ‘new technology creation,’ which supports convergence research such as artificial intelligence (AI) between laboratories.
The Regional Excellent Researcher-Enterprise Linked R&BD Project is divided into ‘creative and leading type,’ which supports research and commercialization activities of emerging researchers in the region, and ‘startup-linked type,’ which supports technology advancement of early startups to help them grow into excellent local companies, with a total budget of 500 million KRW allocated this year.

Detailed information on project applications can be found on the BISTEP website, and the application submission period is until the 24th of this month. Lee Jinmo, head of the University Cooperation Division of Busan City, said, “Regional universities and companies are important innovation resources that will lead the future of Busan City,” adding, “If creative and challenging research outcomes emerge through this project, they can become the foundation for regional innovation growth.”
