Lee In-young "Response to Novel Coronavirus, Top Priority for February National Assembly... Bipartisan Cooperation Needed"
"Hold Relevant Standing Committee and Establish New Coronavirus Parliamentary Response Team"
"Thanks to Asan and Jincheon Residents for Embracing Wuhan Evacuees"
[Asia Economy reporters Wondara and Jeon Jinyoung] Lee In-young, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed a bipartisan response to tackle the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia).
Lee said, "Easing the public's anxiety about the novel coronavirus has emerged as an important task for the political sphere," adding, "I propose setting the highest priority for the February National Assembly session on strengthening the highest-level quarantine network, minimizing the recession of the low-income economy, and preventing damage to small business owners."
He stated, "It is necessary to urgently convene the relevant standing committees to prepare support measures at the National Assembly level and to establish a novel coronavirus National Assembly response team to devise a comprehensive plan for the early resolution of the situation," and added, "The Democratic Party will do its utmost to cooperate with all opposition parties to prepare support measures at the bipartisan National Assembly level."
He continued, "To this end, we will hold a meeting of the chief deputy floor leaders of both ruling and opposition parties this morning. I hope the political sphere can respond as one," and said, "Yesterday, the Liberty Korea Party also promised bipartisan cooperation and proposed ten countermeasures. I think the Liberty Korea Party's position was constructive and proactive, and I welcome it."
He also added, "Our National Assembly also has a precedent in 2015 when the ruling and opposition parties joined forces to establish a special committee on MERS and launched full support efforts."
