[Product Review] Spicier Neoguri... A Sharp, Deeply Spicy Flavor That Wakes You Up
Three Times Spicier Than Original Neoguri
Thicker and Chewier Noodles for Enhanced Texture
Online Nickname 'RtA' Revealed as Real Name... Adding Fun
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] When Paldo Bibimmyun, which increased its weight by 20%, was released, it gave the exact feeling of "Ah! Finally, something that should have come out has come out." This was the first thought that came to mind when seeing the new Neoguri product that enhanced the spiciness threefold and thickened the noodles.
Neoguri, characterized by its rich seafood flavor, thick noodles, and square kelp pieces, has maintained popularity for a long time, with a dedicated fan base. It is a ramen that gives a hearty feeling without getting soggy quickly even when roughly boiled in a tin pot, making it a staple menu item for camping and picnics. However, amid the increasingly intense ramen trends, the familiar taste of Neoguri sometimes felt a bit monotonous. Timely, the limited edition new product 'Angry RtA' appeared.
RtA is a name based on a principle similar to 'IdH' (a nickname foreigners use for Haitai htb's 'Gal-a-madeun Bae' drink). When you turn the Neoguri packaging upside down, it resembles the letters R, t, and A, which is why this nickname was given both domestically and internationally online.
I purchased a 5-pack of bagged RtA from a large mart’s online mall for 3,380 won. Compared to the retail price of 1,000 won per pack, this is a reasonable price. The regular 5-pack Neoguri ramen is sold for 3,650 won on the same mall. Although it seemed difficult to find the RtA name, it was easy to spot since it was simply the existing Neoguri font flipped upside down. The black background packaging with a large Neoguri character with burning eyes is impressive.
The cooking method is similar to the original Neoguri, but unlike the original Neoguri ramen which requires 550 ml of water, Angry RtA calls for only 500 ml. However, when actually cooked, the noodles were thicker than the original Neoguri, so it felt better to add a generous amount of water to allow enough time for the noodles to cook properly.
As the name 'Angry' suggests, the broth’s flavor has become fiery. The moment I took a sip of the broth, I was instantly awakened. It’s as fiery as the hangover jjambbong you order at a Chinese restaurant. Nongshim explained that it is about three times spicier than the original Neoguri, and it is recommended that those who do not usually enjoy spicy food approach it with caution.
The noodles are slightly thicker than the original Neoguri and surprisingly chewy and springy. The content of seafood ingredients such as mussels, squid, and seaweed has increased compared to the original Neoguri, enhancing the jjambbong-like feeling. The Neoguri-shaped fish cake in the dried vegetable soup is literally a 'taste sniper.' The chewy texture here and there adds a lot of fun to chewing. Since I like spicy flavors, this will personally be my 'choea? (most cherished)' ramen for a while.
