Contacts of the 5th to 7th Novel Coronavirus Patients: About 20 Each

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced on the 1st the progress of additional epidemiological investigations conducted so far on the 5th to 11th confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) in South Korea.
The 5th confirmed case (33-year-old male, Korean) has 29 identified contacts to date. Among them, one acquaintance tested positive and is currently hospitalized at Seoul Medical Center, while the remaining contacts are under self-quarantine and other measures.
After symptom onset, the patient visited places such as restaurants, supermarkets, and wedding shops using buses. Environmental disinfection has been completed for the bus, restaurant, and supermarket where the patient stayed for extended periods.
The 6th confirmed case (55-year-old male, Korean) has 25 identified contacts to date. Among them, two family members tested positive and are hospitalized at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul Medical Center, respectively, while the remaining contacts are under self-quarantine and other measures.
The patient visited a church after symptom onset but had been under self-quarantine since being notified on the 27th of last month as a contact of the 3rd confirmed case. Environmental disinfection has been completed for the patient’s residence and the church.
The 7th confirmed case (28-year-old male, Korean) has 21 identified contacts to date. The contacts are under self-quarantine and other measures. It has been confirmed that the patient mainly stayed at home after symptom onset, and further investigation is ongoing.
The 8th confirmed case (62-year-old female, Korean) developed muscle pain symptoms on the 21st of last month while staying in Wuhan, China. Investigations are underway regarding places visited and contacts after symptom onset.
The 9th confirmed case (28-year-old female, Korean) was a contact of the 5th confirmed case and was notified as a contact on January 30th. She reportedly stayed at home after symptom onset.
The 10th confirmed case (52-year-old female, Korean) and the 11th confirmed case (25-year-old male, Korean) are family members of the 6th confirmed case and were confirmed positive on the 31st of last month. The 10th case developed headache symptoms on the 29th of last month, and the 11th case experienced flu-like symptoms on the 30th. After symptom onset of the 10th case, both patients visited an acquaintance’s house and a hair salon together, and environmental disinfection has been completed for these locations.

Meanwhile, the 12th confirmed case in South Korea was identified on the same day. The 12th patient is a 49-year-old Chinese male residing in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. This patient, a tour guide, stayed in Japan for work and entered Korea through Gimpo Airport on the 19th of last month. It has been confirmed that he had contact with a confirmed patient in Japan.
