The 7th Confirmed Case of Novel Coronavirus in the US... Infected After Visiting Wuhan
[Asia Economy Reporter Koh Hyung-kwang] The California Department of Public Health has reported the seventh confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) in the United States.
According to CNBC and ABC broadcasts on the 1st, an adult male living near San Francisco, California, tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also confirmed the seventh patient.
The man was infected after visiting Wuhan, China, the origin of the virus, and reportedly has been in self-quarantine since returning to the United States on the 24th of last month.
A U.S. health official stated, "We understand concerns may increase with the confirmation of a novel coronavirus case, but this single case does not change the risk of infection for the general public."
The seventh U.S. novel coronavirus patient was confirmed on the same day the Donald Trump administration declared a public health emergency related to the disease.
A U.S. health official said, "We are preparing as if the novel coronavirus could be the next pandemic," but added, "We hope that does not happen."
Previously, six confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in the U.S.: two in California, one in Arizona, one in Washington, and two in Illinois.
