Assemblyman Park Ji-won: "Ahn Cheol-soo's Party Formation Will Not Have Significant Impact"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Former leader Park Ji-won of the Alternative New Party commented on former leader Ahn Cheol-soo's departure from the Bareunmirae Party and the founding of a new party, stating on the 31st, "South Korea is not France, and Ahn Cheol-soo is not Macron," and "The influence of Ahn Cheol-soo's new party founding will not be that significant."
On the morning of the 31st, former leader Park appeared on BBS-R's
He also expressed concern, saying, "In an already difficult economic situation, various scheduled meetings and events are being canceled due to the novel coronavirus," and "I worry that the economy may become even more difficult."
Regarding questions about conservative unification, he said, "The biggest issues in the general election are candidate nominations and distribution of shares, and for now, it seems unlikely to happen," and predicted, "Former leader Ahn Cheol-soo will also likely pursue an independent party founding with a long-term view as his party leader and presidential candidate."
He continued, "Professor Park Hyung-joon said today he would present interim results of conservative grand unification, but conservatives including our Gonghwah Party, former Governor Kim Moon-soo, Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon, and lawmakers Lee Eon-ju and Lee Jeong-hyun are now divided into more than four or five rows, even seven or eight rows, making grand unification difficult," adding, "Conservatives must acknowledge the spirit of the times such as the Park Geun-hye impeachment and the May 18 issue, and both leaders Hwang Kyo-ahn and Yoo Seung-min must give up their presidential candidacies and relinquish everything for unification to be realized."
Regarding questions about the push for third force integration including the Alternative New Party, he said, "We must be determined not to do it and give up everything, and the Alternative New Party is doing just that," and added, "We are trying to unite to bring in good leaders, and by doing so, in Honam we will compete one-on-one with the Democratic Party, and in non-Honam regions, we will form alliances and coalitions against the conservative camp, which is the way to win the election."
