Korean Party: "Immediate Halt Required on Unpaid Leave Notification for Korean Workers of USFK"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Liberty Korea Party raised its voice on the 29th through a statement, demanding the immediate halt of the unpaid leave notice given to Korean workers employed by the US Forces Korea.
Kim Seong-won, spokesperson for the Liberty Korea Party, stated, "As the agreement on defense cost-sharing between Korea and the US is delayed, Korean workers at the US Forces Korea have been hit by a sudden blow." He added, "It is like a shrimp’s back breaking in a fight between whales," and criticized, "We cannot help but reflect on whether the alliance between Korea and the US, which was forged with blood and passion, could be disrupted over just a few bucks. We express deep regret to both the Korean and US governments."
Spokesperson Kim said, "The tragedy began when the alliance was viewed through the lens of financial gain and when forces that saw the Korea-US alliance as an obstacle to improving relations with North Korea and China found their interests aligned." He criticized, "Since the Moon Jae-in administration, cracks in the Korea-US relationship have begun to appear. Not a single North Korean nuclear weapon or missile has disappeared. China’s THAAD threats have not ceased. Meanwhile, Korea and the US have shown differences in their policies toward North Korea and China, and eventually, government-level distrust toward the US Ambassador to Korea even emerged."
He said, "No matter how difficult and challenging it is, we must not forget that the Korea-US alliance is itself the joint command’s motto, ‘We go together.’" He added, "To continue the noble spirit we have shared so far, the US government should immediately stop the unpaid leave notice to Korean workers."
