Busan Fisheries Policy Forum Holds Regular General Meeting and New Year's Reception
On the 30th at Lotte Hotel Busan... Mayor Oh Keo-don Attends
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Busan City announced on the 29th that the Busan Fisheries Policy Forum will hold the ‘2020 Busan Fisheries Policy Forum Regular General Meeting and New Year Gathering.’
The event, held at 5:30 PM on the 30th at Lotte Hotel Busan, will bring together fisheries-related institutions, organizations, academia, and industry stakeholders. Attendees include Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don, National Assembly member Yoon Joon-ho, as well as heads of fisheries-related institutions and organizations such as the Director of the National Institute of Fisheries Science and the President of the Korea Offshore Fisheries Association.
Last year, the coastal fisheries industry and related sectors faced difficulties due to a sharp decline in fishery resources, operational disruptions caused by abnormal temperatures, and delays in Korea-Japan fisheries negotiations, resulting in the volume of fish sold at the joint fish market dropping to about 65% compared to the previous year.
At the event, Mayor Oh plans to encourage the efforts of fisheries workers who strive for the development of Busan’s fisheries despite difficult conditions.
Mayor Oh stated, “This year marks the beginning of a historic change for the Busan Joint Fish Market,” adding, “We will invest 120 billion KRW in public ownership and over 170 billion KRW in modernization to transform it into a more hygienic and modern sales facility and make it a fish market loved by citizens.”
