Gyeongbuk Province to Invest 430 Billion KRW in River Disaster Prevention Projects This Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 28th that it will invest 429.5 billion KRW (national funds 165.9 billion, provincial funds 233.2 billion, city and county funds 30.4 billion) in 599 sites across 23 cities and counties for local river projects this year.
The province plans to place early orders for this project by March and execute 60% of this year's budget in the first half to create local jobs and revitalize the economy.
Funds will be allocated to 66 river disaster prevention projects (48 km) totaling 190.5 billion KRW, 6.3 billion KRW for groundwater management system construction, 7 billion KRW for typhoon Kong-rey disaster recovery at 6 sites, 11.8 billion KRW for Bonghwa Dam construction, and 13.4 billion KRW for maintenance projects at 358 river sites.
In particular, the province formed a typhoon damage recovery task force (TF) to prioritize urgent restoration at 23 sites (Gyeongju, Yeongdeok, Seongju, Uljin) where river embankments were washed away and structures damaged by Typhoon Mitak in October last year.
