Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Checks Infectious Disease Response System During Lunar New Year Holiday
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, visited Muan International Airport on the 23rd to inspect the infectious disease response system, including for the novel coronavirus, in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday and encouraged the officials involved.
The novel coronavirus infection first emerged in Wuhan City, China, at the end of last year, and confirmed cases have since spread not only throughout China but globally.
In South Korea, a Chinese national entering the country was confirmed as the first case on the 20th.
Governor Kim stated, “In this confirmed case, the individual was classified as a suspected patient during the airport quarantine stage, which helped prevent community transmission,” and added, “The role of quarantine agencies in blocking infectious diseases is very important.”

He also said, “With the Lunar New Year holiday approaching, overseas travelers are expected to increase,” and urged, “Jeonnam Province and airport-related agencies should actively cooperate and thoroughly manage entries to prevent any confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the province.”
