Gijang-gun, Recruiting Participants for the 'Military Citizen Health Promotion Support Project'
Among a total of 1,550 people, 700 receive full support of 800,000 KRW, and 850 receive reduced support
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Gijang-gun is recruiting participants for the ‘2020 Gijang-gun Residents Health Promotion Project’ for one week until the 31st.
According to Gijang-gun on the 21st, through this recruitment of a total of 1,550 participants, full screening costs of 800,000 KRW will be supported for seniors aged 65 and over, national veterans, basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, single-parent families, and registered disabled persons. For residents aged 40 and over who do not meet these conditions, 700,000 KRW will be supported, allowing them to receive expensive screenings by paying only a 100,000 KRW personal contribution.
Eligibility requires having a residence in Gijang-gun and living there continuously for more than three years, or among those relocated from other regions due to nuclear power plant construction, only those aged 40 and over who had their resident registration in Gijang-eup’s Gori, Hyoam-ri, or Gilcheon-ri before May 31, 2003, and lived there continuously for more than three years can apply. In the case of foreigners, those who have foreigner registration in Gijang-gun and have continuously stayed for more than three years, and who are married to a Korean citizen and are aged 40 or older, are eligible to apply.
Applications can be submitted at the administrative welfare centers of the five eup and myeon in Gijang-gun during the recruitment period.
Selected residents will choose either a comprehensive cancer screening or cerebrovascular screening and receive the examination at the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center. The selection results will be announced on the county website after the participant selection committee meeting at the end of next month.
Through the Gijang-gun Residents Health Promotion Project, Gijang-gun has invested 1 billion KRW annually in county funds over the past 10 years, supporting screening costs totaling about 9 billion KRW. Up to last year, more than 13,500 residents have received screening cost support.

Park Eun-jin, an official of Gijang-gun, said, “This project will expand medical welfare benefits to residents who hesitate due to expensive screening costs,” adding, “We also provide health management services for prevention and care that can be practiced in daily life by opening health lectures with experts in various fields.”
