KOSPI Closes Up at 2262... KOSDAQ Falls Below 690 Level
Once Surpassed 2277... Highest Since October 2018
KOSDAQ Closes Down at 683 Level
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] On the 17th, the KOSPI closed higher at the 2262 level. At one point, it even rose above 2277. Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ fell below the 690 level and closed lower.
On that day, the KOSPI closed at 2262.64, up 12.07 points (0.54%) from the previous trading day. Around 11:34 a.m., it recorded 2277.23, the highest level since October 2018.
In the securities market, individuals and institutions sold net amounts of 54.5 billion KRW and 18 billion KRW, respectively. Foreigners bought a net amount of 53 billion KRW.
By industry, the electric and electronics sector showed the largest gain with a 1.55% increase. This was followed by non-metallic minerals (1.34%), steel and metals (1.24%), and manufacturing (0.82%). Conversely, textiles and apparel (2.34%), medical precision (1.02%), food and beverages (1.00%), and transportation and warehousing (0.82%) declined.
Among the top 10 companies by market capitalization, LG Chem rose the most by 6.31%. This was followed by POSCO (2.28%), Samsung Electronics (1.79%), and SK Hynix (0.91%). On the other hand, NAVER (1.83%), Celltrion (1.43%), and LG Household & Health Care (1.35%) fell.
Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ broke below the 690 level that day. It closed at 683.47, down 4.94 points (0.72%). Individuals bought a net amount of 154.8 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions sold net amounts of 71.2 billion KRW and 77.1 billion KRW, respectively.
Most industries declined. Digital content (2.79%), software (2.21%), entertainment and culture (2.01%), distribution (1.71%), non-metallic minerals (1.64%), construction (1.59%), and transportation equipment and parts (1.58%) were among the sectors that fell. Conversely, paper and wood (1.28%) and pharmaceuticals (0.58%) rose.

Most of the top 10 companies by market capitalization also fell. Pearl Abyss dropped the most by 5.39%, followed by Paradise (4.64%), Celltrion Healthcare (2.91%), and HLB (2.23%). However, KMV (2.71%) and Medytox (1.24%) rose.
