Prime Minister Jeong Issues Urgent Directive for Isolation of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Patients to Early Contain Infectious Disease
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun on the 20th urgently instructed, regarding the occurrence of patients infected with the novel coronavirus, "The Minister of Health and Welfare and the Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must perfectly isolate and treat the patients, and promptly and thoroughly conduct epidemiological investigations such as tracing the patients' movements, contact routes, and contacts to block the possibility of infectious disease spread at an early stage."
Prime Minister Chung received a report on the confirmed cases related to the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China, and gave these instructions to Minister Park Neung-hoo of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, according to the Office for Government Policy Coordination and the Prime Minister's Secretariat.
Prime Minister Chung said, "The Minister of Health and Welfare and the Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must strictly follow the established manual," and ordered, "Make thorough preparations for necessary response measures by closely cooperating with related ministries such as the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and local governments centered on the Central Disease Control Headquarters."
He also urged, "The Minister of Health and Welfare and the Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should promptly and transparently disclose related information such as the progress of quarantine to the public to prevent any anxiety."
