The National Theatre of England's Epic 'War Horse' to Open at Blue Square This July
English writer Michael Morpurgo's novel is the original work... Steven Spielberg also produced it as a drama
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The British National Theatre's grand production "War Horse" is arriving in Korea this summer.
"War Horse" is a work adapted by the British National Theatre in 2007 from the novel of the same name written by British author Michael Morpurgo in 1982, transformed into a spectacular stage art piece. Since its premiere in 2007 until May last year, it attracted over 8 million viewers across 97 cities in 11 countries worldwide. It has proven its artistic and commercial success by sweeping prestigious global theater awards, including two categories at the 2008 Laurence Olivier Awards (Set Design and Choreography), five categories at the 2011 Tony Awards (Play, Direction, Set Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design), as well as the Evening Standard Award, WhatsOnStage Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Drama League Award, and Drama Desk Award.
In 2011, it was adapted into a drama in the United States, produced and directed by Steven Spielberg.
"War Horse" depicts the adventures and friendship between "Joey," a horse conscripted as a cavalry horse during World War I, and a boy named "Albert." It is a universal story of pain and suffering caused by war, reconciliation, and peace, transcending temporal and spatial backgrounds to resonate with people of all ages living today.
The life-sized horse puppets made of wood and the intricate performances by the puppeteers create the illusion that the horses are truly present on stage. The puppets were designed by the "Handspring Puppet Company," a unique South African puppet theater group that has dedicated over 30 years to nurturing numerous designers, actors, technicians, and providing an artistic foundation.
The SBS 30th anniversary grand production "War Horse" is jointly planned and produced by Show Note Co., Ltd. and Ampi & Company.
