[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] On the 13th, the National Assembly held a plenary session and passed amendments to the Criminal Procedure Act and the Prosecutors' Office Act, which adjust investigative authority between the prosecution and the police.
Regarding the Criminal Procedure Act, 167 members participated in the vote, with 165 in favor, 1 against, and 1 abstention.
The core of the amendment is to abolish the prosecution's authority to direct police investigations and to allow the police to conclude investigations on their own if they determine there is no suspicion.
