Lee In-young: "Hwang Kyo-ahn Must Open the Minimum Breathing Space for Dialogue Between Ruling and Opposition Parties"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Lee In-young, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the Liberty Korea Party for breaking the agreement and not attending the plenary session to pass the livelihood bills, saying, "Since Hwang Kyo-ahn became the leader of the Liberty Korea Party, agreements between the ruling and opposition parties have been repeatedly overturned," and urged, "Leader Hwang should at least keep the minimum breathing space open for dialogue between the ruling and opposition leadership."
At the party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 10th, Floor Leader Lee said, "Yesterday, after great efforts, 198 livelihood bills passed the National Assembly. Each one is a precious law that greatly affects the lives of the people." He added, "It feels like a big thorn that had been stuck in the heart for over a month has been removed," but also expressed, "I feel sorry to the people who have been anxiously waiting without knowing the reason for the delay in passing the bills."
Regarding the Liberty Korea Party's absence from the plenary session, which was agreed upon to handle the livelihood bills but boycotted citing personnel appointments in the prosecution, he said, "I saw reports that Leader Hwang led the boycott of the livelihood plenary session yesterday," and added, "No matter how many times I think about it, I cannot understand what purpose the boycott of the livelihood plenary session served." He further criticized, "What does the Liberty Korea Party gain from this? At this point, it would be fair to call them a habitual runaway party or a boycott-addicted party."
Floor Leader Lee said, "Looking back, the National Assembly has suffered severe turmoil due to the repeated overturning of agreements by the Liberty Korea Party since Leader Hwang's leadership. I believe the leadership of the public security prosecutors is the key reason pushing the National Assembly to extremes." He then requested, "I ask Leader Hwang not to attack only the lives of the people," and urged, "Please keep the minimum breathing space open for dialogue between the ruling and opposition leadership."
