'Tada' Involved in 'Illegal Controversy', 2nd Trial Today... Fierce Battle Expected
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] The second trial of 'Tada' will be held on the 8th.
The Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 18 will hold the second trial session of Lee Jae-woong, CEO of Socar, and Park Jae-wook, CEO of VCNC, who were indicted for violating the 'Passenger Transport Service Act' on the afternoon of the day.
Witness examinations are also scheduled for employees of Tada's operating company and representatives of driver service agencies, so fierce courtroom battles are expected.
Currently, the amendment to the Passenger Transport Service Act, known as the 'Tada Prohibition Act,' is still pending in the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, which is expected to deepen the court's dilemma.
Tada's claim that the legal basis for its operation has not completely disappeared is expected to lead to intense disputes between both sides.
The amendment mainly requires platform transportation operators to secure vehicles and pay contribution fees when engaging in transportation business. In the case of 'Tada,' to continue operations, they must borrow or purchase taxi licenses.

Additionally, the amendment raises an exception clause through enforcement ordinances that allows the dispatch of drivers when renting vans with 11 to 15 seats, but restricts it to tourism purposes and rental periods of six hours or more. The amendment is to be enforced one year after promulgation, with a six-month grace period after enforcement.
