Busan Coast Guard Conducts '2020 National Lifeguard Qualification Exam'
Increased Exam Frequency by 2 Compared to Last Year, with More Detailed Evaluation Subjects
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] The Busan Maritime Police announced on the 6th that the ‘2020 Water Rescue National Qualification Exam’ in the Busan area will be held a total of 8 times from March 15 to December 13.
This year’s Water Rescue National Qualification Exam requires candidates to complete at least 64 hours (16 hours of theory, 48 hours of practice) of prior training at related organizations or institutions designated by the Korea Coast Guard to be eligible to take the exam.
For a total of 7 exam subjects (Navigation Law, Swimming Rescue, Equipment Rescue, Basic Rescue, Comprehensive Rescue, First Aid, Equipment Technology), candidates must score at least 60 points out of 100 in total, and at least 40% of the full score in each subject.
In particular, unlike last year, the Comprehensive Rescue field among the existing 6 subjects (Navigation Law, Swimming Rescue, Equipment Rescue, Comprehensive Rescue, First Aid, Equipment Technology) has been subdivided into Basic Rescue and Comprehensive Rescue, changing and evaluating the exam into a total of 7 subjects.
The number of exam sessions has also increased from 6 to 8, providing more opportunities for candidates taking the Water Rescue National Qualification Exam. The registration period has also been shortened from 19 days to 15 days to reduce waiting times for examinees.
The Water Rescue National Qualification grants certification to individuals with professional capabilities to rescue lives on water. Upon acquisition, candidates can apply for recruitment fields of police officers affiliated with the Korea Coast Guard (constable and special rescue). Additionally, they can work as water safety education instructors at nationwide disaster safety education institutions or engage in safety management duties at beaches, water parks, water leisure businesses, and other related places.
