[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Named for being the coldest after Daehan (Great Cold), the temperature on January 6, which is the solar term Sohan (Minor Cold), is expected to be higher than average, but a large amount of rain or snow will fall nationwide until the day after tomorrow.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that the highest daytime temperature on this day will be 3 to 11 degrees Celsius, 3 to 5 degrees higher than the average (1 to 8 degrees). Tomorrow morning's lowest temperature will be 1 to 12 degrees (average -11 to 0 degrees), and the highest daytime temperature will be 6 to 17 degrees (1 to 8 degrees), continuing relatively mild weather.
From the afternoon, rain or snow is expected. Rain starting from the Jeolla West Coast will expand to most parts of the country from the afternoon, and rain will fall nationwide tomorrow. The day after tomorrow, rain will fall nationwide but mostly stop by the morning, except in Gangwon Yeongdong, Chungbuk, and eastern inland Jeonbuk, where rain or snow will continue until 6 p.m. The expected precipitation is 30 to 80 mm, with very heavy rain of over 120 mm expected in Gangwon Yeongdong and the mountainous areas of Jeju Island.
Relatively lower temperatures are expected in the northern inland Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, and Chungbuk, where rain or snow will fall. Especially from the night of the 7th to the morning of the 8th, as cold and dry air moves southward causing temperatures to drop, very heavy snow will accumulate in the mountainous areas of Gangwon, and snow accumulation is expected in the inland areas of Gangwon and northern inland Gyeongbuk. The expected snow accumulation is 5 to 30 cm in the Gangwon mountainous areas, 1 to 4 cm in inland Gangwon and northern inland Gyeongbuk, and about 1 cm in northern inland Gyeonggi.
